You may be thinking that your Vaio CR laptop is out of commission if the Sony Vaio VGN-CR Keyboard is broken, but that isn't necessarily the case. Many laptops, like Sony Vaio C-series laptops, are designed so that the entire keyboard can be removed from the computer. Once the old keyboard is removed, you can install a new Sony Vaio VGN-CR Keyboard on your own, and you need not be a computer wizard to do it.
Turn off your Vaio and remove the AC power cable. Turn the computer upside down and slide the rectangular battery out of its bay on the underside of the computer.
Locate and remove the single screw in the middle of the bottom of the computer. The screw is labeled "K" and holds the Sony Vaio VGN-CR Keyboard in place.
Turn the computer right-side up. Pop up each of the four tabs located just above the keyboard.
Lift the Sony Vaio VGN-CR Keyboard up from the top and unplug the ribbon cable that connects at the back of it. Set the keyboard aside.
Plug the ribbon cable into the port on the back of the new keyboard and fit the keyboard over the computer. Snap the latches in place and replace the screw on the bottom of the computer.
